You will find a lot of knowledgeable people here and on S2KUK and S2KI where there is also a list of cars for sale. If you have a look at 2Talkabout Honda under S2000 you will find a thread where I got some help when I was recently looking to buy an S2K. Good Luck.

I'm pretty sure that from a 2002 plate, the handling was much improved. And also the fact that they started to put proper glass in the rear window. Rather than plastic.

I don't think you/they will go far wrong with an S2000. What a Crimbo present indeed.

There was a restyled front and bigger alloys in 2004 but the car does not look significantly different. IMHO its the most fun you can have without going to high end Porsches. Far superior to Z4s and the like. Take your time and get a nice one.

As stated above go to www.s2ki.co.uk

Also the for sale section: www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=249683&view=findpost&p=6679576

With your budget you will be able to get an 03 plate, which has minor cosmetic changes compared to the original model, some suspension changes, and glass rear screen. I doubt you will be able to find anything in the 04 model range, which again had further changes. This time of year is a good time to buy as it's a buyers market out there and you should be able to get a great deal, esp if you go for a private sale.

Good luck.

Simon, I got your email but have not responded yet, sorry! I think it might be my Dad you are thinking of (he also has an S2000, and is in N Wales too) AdrianEagle is his handle here, pop him an email through his profile. (I think you might have met him once at a Pendorosa meet??

If you need any help etc, drop me a line too

This would be worth looking at if it isn't sold yet:

Agreed on S2ki forum...very useful, and some well looked-after cars for sale.

15k will get a good '02 or '03 (both facelifts as mentioned). Mileage IS important as with this sort of car people really look at mileage come resale...even though the engines and build quality are both impeccable.

Colour also important - avoid Nurburgring Blue (the light one), and also Silverstone (Met. grey) unless it's got something like a half-red interior to set it off. Black and Monte-Carlo blue very nice, red is quite cool, then you get to the extreme colours (yellow, orange, green), which are individual choices. Find out what he likes, colour-wise.

And the other consideration is hard-top. A GT will be £500 or so more than one without a hard-top, but 2nd-hand hard-tops change hands for at least that much. Makes it a lot more pleasant in winter, if it's an only car.

As for what to look out for...s2ki forum will have the specific pointers, just be very aware of crash-damage (cosmetic damage not an issue, but if they've had a big bump the suspension might've taken a knock), and also see if they've checked/greased the suspension bolts in the last year or two (potential big-bill issue, small number of cars so far). Otherwise nothing beyond the usual used-car checks. They ARE very sensitive to geometry set-up, however, so may want to drive a couple to be sure what you're looking for.

Considering that mine's Nurburgring Blue you will understand that I don't advise you to avoid it!!! IMHO not only does it look terrific on a nice day with the dark blue hood but it also leaves the showrooms faster, or so I am told. But we are a broad church here!

Apparently it's one of the most difficult colours to shift....

Not when I was looking for one it wasn't. Plus Honda don't seem to think so if you care to look at their showrooms. Plastered with pictures of Nurburgring Blue S2k's.smash
