I'm starting racing next year and planned to use the scooby to tow the race car. It'll weigh about a tonne all told. I'm a bit concerned about the mpg though.

Do any of you guys tow with yours and how do you fare?

I assume you mean an Impreza? If so, I have used my wagon to tow a small trailer. It's OK for that but I would be wary of going upto a car trailer with a ton on board particularly over any distance. I am not sure it would feel too stable. I don't really drive far enough with a trailer to notice the difference in fuel consumption but I would guess the extra load is offset by not driving like my trousers are on fire

Can't answer this but curious to read the answers.
My other half bought a car just for towing his race car, but would rather use my scoob (and I am still saying no...lol)

It should be ok. It's less than the 85% recommended maximum.

Indeedhehe My best mpg has been with two bikes on the roof

Where did you get your tow hitch from?

Can't help as to where it came from. It was fitted by the previous owner.

I am sure it could pull the car and trailer safely, my point was more what it would feel like. When I towed a race car it was with a Jeep or Landy so by comparisson the scoob feels a bit pulled about.

With the AWD, good mechanical grip etc it might not be affected too much, I only ever needed to tow light trailers on my Legacy though. The Impreza might not be that heavy compared to big 4WD barges, but its still a verys table vehicle etc, I'd expect it to be ok.

This is the worst, most sordid, horrific thing I've ever owned up to. But....

I know someone who tows a carvan.

(with his scooby WRX) apparently it does so really well, better than the M5 he had previously.

Doesn't excuse the afct he's shed dragging though.
