thinking of buying one of these,wondering what i should be looking for and opinions.also does anyone know of good websitess to find out more.

Don't buy an auto!!! it will crap itself within weeks, manuals are the only one worth worth buying but make sure its standard as possible.

And ,ake sure your prepared for the fuel bills yikes


If you need a hand finding one happy to help as I source imports on a regular basis.

prefer manual anyway,what is prob with autos? what sort of mileage do they return and what is insurance group? cheers rob

Mitsubishi auto boxes seem to explode on a weekly basis in my experience! so simply avoid at all costs, sub 20mpg on a good day, think group 18-20 ins too, though that varies, use for Lifesure for imports they are very cheap. Not a cheap car to run by any means but very comfy & fast for an estate.

While that may be true, he is talking about a Subaru not a Mitsubishi...

But I agree, don't buy an auto - the auto versions are detuned from 280 to 250-260 bhp, and the box isn't that great either. I have heard tell (based on the older ones though) of autos needing a full rebuild/replacement at 150-180,000 km pretty much without exception.

fuel consumption not as bad as some think when cruising gently etc, you might even see 30mpg on a long run if you're lucky. still v. thirsty round town though, and when you put your foot down you can practically watch the fuel gauge move down as the speedo goes up (ie quickly)

yes Its simple really, just don't buy an automatic car whatever you get! That way you'll have more fun as well.

As a quick side note, had one very recently a Legacy RS Saloon, and upon some investigation they had a sequencial turbo arrangement, one smaller boosts up first to 4k ish then another from 4k upwards. Both are tiny little turbos with amazing cluster of vacuum controls that I could'nt out. Went like stink though & was an awesome A-B road car.

I find www.english.auto.vl.ru is good for finding stats for just about anything JDM.

re the twin-turbos, all turbo Legacies from 1994-2003ish had the twin sequentials, but with the latest version they've switched back to a clever (titanium iirc) single which is supposed to be much better in terms of lag and power/torque curves. I've driven a '91 GT single turbo and '95 GT twin turbo, and much preferred the power delivery of the single. The sequentials (especially if getting a bit tired) tend to have a big flat spot at ~4200rpm between the first (small) turbo running out of puff and the second (bigger) turbo getting on boost properly. The sequentials also have a reputation for being very complex and tricky to work on if anything goes wrong.

For most of the Legacies life the RS (or RSK, or RS-B for some models) was the sedan turbo, and the GT or GT-B was the wagon version. But pre-1994 they made both RS and GT sedans and wagons (which I don't know of any difference between), and now afaik theyre all GT's.

What age of Legacy are you looking at?

drove one yesterday which was a 95 on auto which have to say very unimpressed with.maybe a bad one will try some others.expected 280hp to have a lot more kick!

Autos are only 260hp, and that before the slushomatic soaks up half the torque...what did we tell you

Try a manual GT-B before making up your mind recognizable mainly by different spotlights, factory 17" wheels, and the blue and yellow bilstein badge on the back.

i was tempted by one of these when I was looking to by an Impreza wagon but over half the adverts read 'had engine rebuild' so I decided to go for uk Impreza instead

1995 GT for 2450, doesn't look as good a car as the GT-B above though
