Hi do you know of a known supplier in NZ or Aust that stocks Castrol TAF-X 75W-90 Transmission oil. Tried all the main suppliers and Castrol NZ said they have never heard of the stuff (typical). Lotus Aust havent got back to me yet. Closest we have here is Castrol Syntrax which isn’t the same and not as good for wear and tear. Lotus UK and various well known UK Esprit Groups said there’s no alternative? MMMmmm
The official tranny oil for the Renault Box is this TAF stuff, and it’s only available in Europe. Looking at getting 6L in from Germany which should do me for years to come. But will cost nearly $300. banghead I guess it’s a small price to pay if I look at the bigger picture eh!

Got Phil on the case.

If it's Renault there really must be an Elf product that will be right.

fwiw - I had a similar issue with the Porsche/ Mobil recommendation for the '44turbo - similar deal too - a high temp hi load transaxle that specified a GL4 lube because of the symcro material and LSD.

After much discussion with specialists and engineers, I ended up deciding on Redline oils - made a noticable difference to the shift quality with the worn syncros before I had them replaced.

........ and it won't cost you $300 and its ex-stock in NZ

I have a redline oil in it now we put in two yrs ago and shifts quite well considering the throw has been shortened. Just worried about how good it actually is for the box in the long term. Its a tightly specd oil needed nothing else will really come close

Edited to add am real tempted to go with this again as it does shift like butter when all is working well..LOL, only way to tell is to see what particles have stuck to the drain plug. Iff it looks good I may stick with it, otherwise it will be an email to my Esprit German supplier.
