Hi Guys,

I'm new to this mini forum (switched over from porsche forum after selling my Boxster for a new mini CooperS which I ordered this weekend!!).

I'm well excited about what will be my new pride and joy in about 8 weeks time. I've got a CooperS on the way and in anticipation just wanted to learn a few things about the car in anticipation for living with this cool machine.

Can anyone answer the following:

- is there a need to 'run the car in'- if so, what does Mini recommend - rpm, mileage etc

- what engine oil does the CooperS take - synthetic or not?

- fuel grade - reg. unleaded or super unleaded?

- Hi-fi - i've ordered the upgraded sound system as the standard was underwhelming, but I do not know what the improvement will be - a quick listen to the old Harmon Kardon system on the old mini convinced me to upgrade - does anyone know what the upgrade sounds like on new mini?

For those interested, I've ordered a new next generation CooperS in dark silver with body coloured roof, with chili pack, so it comes with xenons and the other trick bits. It also has the R99 polished double spoke alloys, red leather heated sports seats, red interior with piano gloss black trim, climate, mirror pack and the upgraded hi-fi system, and interior chrome line pack, darkened glass too.

cheers

Hi welcome to the forum

wavey

Sounds like a nice motor one of the new turbo's as well, Have to let us all know what you think. Running in i don't know with it being a new model, the oil in my present S is synthetic. Fuel wise I run on shell V power goes well and seems to return better mpg, regular 95 runs ok but seems a little hessitant at times, new engine in yours so have to try out different fuels see whats best.

thanks for info. I'm just wetting myself in excitement...i'll revert to the manual when it arrives for the official word and let you know.

i want to feed it the best stuff so will be tempted to fill with super unleaded to test if there is any difference in performance.

Must say I was rather underwhelmed with the H/K system on the 'old' new Cooper S, but conversely very happy with the bum-basic speaker set up on my Mini One in combination with a simple aftermarket radio/CD head unit. The factory head unit options do seem to lack any kind of useful power output, while the £100 Clarion I have in there drives the (presumably rather cheap) factory-fit speakers with aplomb - everything stays clear, articulate and balanced even when playing The Fat Of The Land loud enough to virtually rip the interior mirror off the 'screen.

The 'new' new Mini seems to have an integrated factory-fit radio in all versions which doesn't look as easy to replace - please don't let it be true 'cause I have no intention to go back to 2 x 5W output or something stupid like that in my next company motor...

I think you are right- the upgrade details in the new mini brochure refer to the additional 230watt amp but the speakers look the same in the pic. I reckon the standard unit has low power as when I turned it up, it sounded thin and then came distortion - the bass notes were more like mid-range and sound chesty - no real extention for scale - (sorry hi-fi audiophile speak!)

the integrated unit looks too bespoke to mess with so I'm taking the easy option and getting it upgraded in the factory. Is it true the old cooper S with HK system had a subwoofer under the rear bench - what a salesman told me???
