My insurance is up for renewal on a 993 targa, my current insurance company direct line does not cover track days or modifications to the car i.e RSR exhaust and suspension tweaks. Does anybody use companies that do cover track days as standard (with a higher excess) and small modifications?

AON have a policy that a lot of 968 owners seem to go for that covers mods and certain track days. Must be over 30 to qualify though.

Heritage insure my 993 and include free track day cover for PCGB events and £62.50 for other organisers.

if you're '96 or earlier try a manning, classic policy, free trackdays, doesnt use NCB

Or even if you are 96+ try A Manning Ltd.

I have both a 92 964RS and 99 GT3 with them

Thanks for all your help. AON looks like the best deal although they want to charge me another £200 for business use as opposed to Directline who dont charge for business use but will not cover track days, and will charge a heavy premium for modifications.

Another vote for A Manning. My car is stored on the driveway and is used for occasional business, minor mods (RSRs etc) and a handful of trackdays. The fact it is on the driveway excludes me from most "Classic" policies. A Manning have come out best two years in a row.

A Manning came out at £1,438 they could not give a limited mileage as the car is kept in south west London (on a drive not garage). They did cover track days and the RSR mod.

I'm with A Manning with the 968, the policy wording on mine stated PCGB trackdays only so you need to get a seperate letter to confirm the ATDO organised events. Mine was only £393 in 5k miles, car is garaged most of the time, the excess is £750 on track days.

Pretty sure, it may possibly be an additional £750 but normal excess is only £100!

Possibly be down to the value of the car? Not sure what you drive.....

You're right, its an additional £750 on top of my base excess which is £500... Car is a GT3.

If its the GT3 in your profile I'm guessing thats the reason for the higher excess!

I know when I insured my Boxster for a day the excess was calculated as a %age of the car value.

Nice looking car BTW!

Thanks

You're right about the 10% excess thing - most other companies quoted me 10% of the cars value as an excess. Thats why £1250 is a reasonable deal to me.

Cheers

Steve - The extra insuance excess you pay for track days is because the insurance company have seen the way you drive on track!!

Performance Marque also provide free PCGB track day cover and £65 for other MSA track days. The excess is 10% on track days like other companies. Their price was cheaper than AON and A Manning for me, plus they give you free PCGB membership which is worth another 50 odd notes
