Im salivating over some of the bargains across the pond:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsch

So does anyone know what it entails to get one of these car re exported back home? Would you have to pay tax on the car, or as it is second hand tax would have already been paid?

Really interesting imho...

Not hundred percent sure but there would be shipping costs £1000 to £2000, then VAT and Export/Import duty even tho' it is secondhand and the 'ol 10% car tax may still be valid on cars from the States.

Read somewhere today that to import a V8 Mustang which at current rates would cost us about £13,000 would total about £23,000 once all dues were paid.

So. That car is worth £25K

10% duty then 17.5% VAT £32312.50

Estimate of £2K to transfer it - £34312.50

Is this cheap for a LHD 2001 Turbo? Looks it to me...

As you are probably aware a couple of PHers are currently in the process of importing two used porsches from the US. Maybe best to email them off forum to get details of current tax rules etc?

I don't think £34k works out to be particulary cheap for an '01 LHD TT - especially since this one is in Speed Yellow - which is lovely if you want one that colour but limits the resale potential somewhat.

Check out the listing details too. Apparently it has a V6 engine (twisted crank case?) and Keyless Go (recently hotwired) ;-) !

P.S Be wary with US-spec cars too as many do not have European suspension settings (not sure about TT's).

US Spec 996tt did have different suspension settings, they can be quite high, like mini 4X4's

I used to get the car park guy, or whoever, just to sling the change through the window. Once a month i'd do a clean out. It was like winning the lottery.

I bought one of these prior to the last eurohoon trip. I think the postage worked out roughly equal to the cost of the unit! Then some brightspark got his secretary to translate the french website of the company that does the electronic pass gismos for the autoroutes and we all ended up using them.

Back on topic. I imagine Adam would be quite keen on the yellow, it'll match his older car.

£/Eur at 1.485 is as strong as the pound has been for a while, maybe worth looking at cars for sale in Europe to avoid much of the import hassle.

I think it is easier to re-sell a european lhd Porsche than a US federalised version over here.
