Tough choice mate!

I don't own either, ended my EVO career with a VI TME. I have, however been fortunate to have had a few experiences in both the 360 and the 400. If I had the choice, I'd go 360.

The 400 is hysterically fast, but the EVO IX is just a more polished piece of kit in my opinion. The 6 that I had was very rigid, so I knew what to expect when I gave my suspension some shit, but the 8 is much softer, road focussed to make it more appealling to those that aren't going to push it to the limits on a track, I suppose. As a result of the softer setup, It somehow managed to seem a bit nervous on something like a fast sweeping bend with a few bumps in it. Nothing major, and I didn't notice it as a problem until I had a ride in the IX 360. The suspension is totally sorted, amazing stuff. Bear in mind though this is on the road, not track.

The main feature though with the IX 360 over the VIII 400 is the power delivery. Obviously a 2L engine deivering 400bhp is going to need a serious turbo, and the lag on the 400 spoilt it somewhat. On track it isnt an issue because you'll be operating in the power band at all times, but on a commute somewhere it can get in the way a little. The 360's power delivery is much more liveable. It gives a bit more torque than the 400, but at about 1000rpm lower. That makes a difference!

Just my opinion, I'm sure others will disagree. For what its worth, I'd go with the 360 if its going to be a daily driver. For track? either!

Each one is devastatingly fast, so its a win/win... Huge amounts of fun. Damm I need to move to scotland.

ps: s2 exige or evo IX 340? Not a daily driver, but not just a sunday toy either, somewhere inbetween..! My current dilema!

Not a tough choice at all.

The 400 makes a disastrous road car (turbo lag, grotty clutch etc). The 360 is fantastic.

Glad to have been of assistance.

gandhi: I think I'd maybe plump for the Exige as a fun car out of those two but I'd love to find a well sorted 350Z with forced induction. That would be a hoot.

Fair call,

I am leaning towards an exige I think, my only doubts are that sometimes, It will be my commuter and I will need to use it regardless of the weather etc... I know that they tend to wear A048s which aren't up to much in the wet, and im not sure whether to expect bombshell bills when it gets serviced. Clearly Evo servicing is a pain in the arse, and one I've lived with, but it really was frighteningly reliable, basically paid for the bare servicing in the 18000 miles I had it.

Either I'm a little conerned about delving into the unknown, or I'm trying to talk myself into the Evo kick again!

I've never been one for the 350Z. I know forced induction will add a bit, but its not the straight line speed that bothers me with them (personally). Crackin cars though, I just reckon an M3 is the more sorted car in that kind of category..

Thought about a supra? Getting on a bit, I know, but I was expecting the 350z to be like that. I've always been a big fan of the TT supras. A good friend of mine has owned one for about 3 years. Bought as standard (UK car) and modified very reasonably to about 430bhp. Tears your face off and hasn't missed a beat.

The M3 is a great car. It does (almost) everything.

Hell of a nice problem to have! I think another Evo might be playing things a bit safe. Live a little and try something very different. Boxster S is worth considering alternatively you could go right out on a limb and get an NSX. VX220Ts looking good value at the moment too.

The Boxter S is a car that I've never driven, hear nothing but good things. I'd rather the exige but the Boxter is a fine every day car. Research to be done on the exige front I feel. Driven a couple of 911s in the past, not much to say about them really, other than they are almost perfect! I suppose for 25-30k I could get a reasonable 996 which would tick all the right boxes..!

Any ideas on the price of a used spec C impreza? 380 bhp isn't to be scoffed at, if its as usable as the standard STI rather than the FQ-400 then it might be worth a look in.

I drove 2 versions of the Type-25 Litchfield Subaru (05 350bhp and a 56palte 415BHP)last week and was mightily impressed. Alternatively a 6 litre VXR Monaro can be had for £26500 brand new now as they clear the decks for the new model.
