The title just about says it all. I am pondering getting a set of track wheels later this year. It appears that just about all GT3 Mk2s seem to be running on either stock wheels or BBSs which are light-ish, rather pricey for a set of rims and somewhat unimaginative. Consequently I thought I would have a trawl and see if there were any other options in appropriate sizes.

So far, it appears that both Enkei and Volk Racing (Rays) in the land of the rising sun make Pork sized wheels, though thus far I have seem neither available from a supplier in the UK.

Enkei RC-T4s (for Imported cars) come in 18x9J, offset at 46mm and 18x11J at 59 for ¥174300 (~£740) for a complete set in Japan. All I could find on weight is ~8.5kg for the front, ~9.5kg for the rears.

Volk Racing TE37s are 18x8.5J, offset at 49mm and 18x11J at 60mm for $2784 (~£1425) per set in the US. They weigh 18lbs and 20lbs each for the front and rears respectively.

[Stock wheels are 18x8.5 ET40 and 18x11 ET63 at 3150Eur (~£2100) for comparison. I think the rears are about 13kg, but I am happy to be corrected on that].

Now the questions:
Has anybody tried either of these wheels on a standard GT3 Mk2 over here?
Particularly the wider Enkei items - will they fit okay at those sizes and offsets? (If tyres are a factor, I would be looking to put MPSCs or Toyo R888s on them in the standard factory sizes for a Mk2 - I assume that they wouldn't be a problem).
Does anybody know of a UK supplier for either of them?
Anybody know what the cost of shipping + taxes would be like from the US and Japan respectively as a personal import?
Any other reason why they wouldn't be a suitable track wheel?

Does anyone out there have any experience or insights to share? At first glance the Enkeis look a total bargin, even if getting them here adds another 50% to the cost...

Spoke to a UK distributor for Rays at the ASI, so the TE37s are certainly an option (slightly pricier than in the US - isn't everything - but not by too much and still well below the cost of the heavier OE or BBS alternatives). Nothing to report about Enkei though.

So nobody out there has tried Japanese wheels on a GT3 over here then?

Oh, and in case anyone is interested, they now come in 19" at the correct sizes for 997s (including the new GT3 and RS) and 987s too...

Recently saw a video of Best Motoring evaluating the Ferrari 430 and comparing it to its competitors (including a 996 GT3 Mk 2). Best Motoring is the equivalent of a Japanese Top Gear so will have sourced the car from an official source.

Relevance? GT3 was on Enkeis
