New Subaru Impreza......finally.....
Discussion
I have just seen new pics of the latest Impreza that's coming out in October........well.....It's different!! Not sure if i like it at the moment....just trying to get over the shock of how different it looks from the usual but i'm getting there and it will grow on me...i hope!!
The spec looks really good but i'm not sure if i would go back to a 2.0L, i prefer the 2.5L
What do you think??

Hmm, not too sure about that, its definitely different, and the hatchback will be better suited to WRC regulations than the sedan shape is. A more cohesive design than the current model in some ways, but I suspect that without the STi gear it may look pretty dull and uninspiring in a general-mass-market-hatchback sort of way, and risks losing the individuality which Imprezas have had over the years.
Will wait and see though...

Not sure if it looks as good as the Evo X. At least Evo have stuck to their roots and kept the 4drs and a boot concept which i think looks OK. The interior of the Evo is actually quite nice too.
Is this too much of a change and does it now look 'same ole, same ole' and as generic as all other hatcbacks are. I always thought that as well as the mechanical side of things which are first and foremost for me, don't Subaru owners buy these cars because they look a bit different from the norm and actually shout 'i am effing quick so don't mess'. I quite like that and i feel this has lost it a bit.
Also....are VW the best they can hope to compete with. I mean....unless you are spending a shedload of money on a VW aren't they all just a bit bland and boring. Even the R32 isn't anything special so i'd have thought they would set their sites a bit higher when thinking about the competition.
I love the exclusivety a Subaru offers because they don't actually sell that many in the UK, and if this appeals to the masses and Subaru get their pricing right they will be a lot more commonplace than they are now. That would be a real shame. I think the introduction of a diesel at some stage would be excellent and very appealing as an everyday reliable hack with decent tuning potential.

I have never bought an Impreza because i found that for me the saloon style lacked practicallity and the looks where always a bit odd. IMO....
I would however buy that car pictured, everything thats good about the current car but with the allround practicality of a hatch and better looks....

How is a hatch more practical than a sedan which is not much smaller inside and has a boot on the back as well? not sure I follow the logic there.
As mentioned above, the wagon versions are much more practical than a hatch or sedan will be though.
anyone else think they ripped of the 1-series? In fact the top pic looks like it could BE a photoshopped 1er....
also while i hate teh current "flying vagina" grill of the Tribeca, the "styled by Proton" chrome bar is :yuk:
overall it *could* look ok in the metal...wait for the autoshows and see.

You would think car companies would use focus groups to do exactly that, as do big brands in other markets. I would love to sit there all day and be paid to pick holes in someones design. Thing is...do they listen to the feedback!! They certainly don't read pistonheads either otherwise they might actually give the public what the public want.

Hatchbacks usually have folding rear seats, this means you can put large things like furniture, luggage, bikes, camping gear..etc in the back and stack them up to the roof. In saloon cars thats not possible.(even if they have folding seats you cannot stack to the roof)
Its boring stuff i know but i already have enough impractical toys, my everyday car needs to be fun and practical. The Integrale and Escort Coworth were perfect. I wish the Evo and the Impreza had been developed along the same lines as the Integrale and Cozzy and not from saloon cars. Thats why the images shown are interesting to me.....
