I know this has been before.. but i cant find it!

I have the Judder problem appearing on my MY2000 impreza..

spoke to the dealer last night, he recos. a new clutch, and flywheel..

app this is a common problem on 4wd's and often needs new flywheel too?

also - any recos. for a good specialist near staines/heathrow?!

thanks

I used to have some clutch judder on my MY02 WRX - it only seemed to do it when cold though.

FRom what i'd read, i didnt think it was a major problem?

Happens with the classic shape Impreza to,some people recommend you do a high rev launch from a standstill, sounds a bit extreme but appears to work.
Do a search on Scoobynet.

maybe its just me but i find it a nightmare to find anything on that site!
just read the first 15 pages.. a few with same problem, but they just have the same advice as above.. burn the clutch out?!

ill give it ago.. but as the clutch is obv. gonna need replaceing eventually.. is it a good idea to do the flywheel as well?!

I get the occasional judder from my clutch but this has been going on for 20k miles, apparently it does not mean it is about to go, the onlt specialist I know anywhere near you is Subaru4you in Newbury, who are excellent.

a friend had this, apart from the occational judder if you cocked up setting off, there was nothing wrong..

i know its very un jap car like, but ignore it and it might go away? (can you tell my other car is a vw?)

I've had this on my 97 car. It's happened intermittently since I've owned it (4 years/45k) and a good standing start or two sorts it. It's still on the original clutchthumbup

spoken to mkg 3000 (twickenham - any good?) they reckon 900 quid for new clutch (jees!)

.. anyway he suggest some 'safe' agressive driving helps the problems some times, so ill give it ago..!

That's very steep for a new clutch. I had an uprated AP item put in for £500 fitted by Thames Valley Motorsport. I wouldn't reccomend them but it was about the market price.

You could also try Risborough Four Wheel Drive. I haven't used them but they have a pretty good reputation.

had this on my my00 impreza which i owned from new.
mainly noticeable on startup when cold and damp only really in 1st gear. after warming up it goes away.

its still on the original clutch even now after 45k miles
basically i would simply advise you to leave it and live with it.

i have heard of people having replacement clutches under warranty for this but sometimes even this didnt fix it.

that is a lot of money IMO, I wouldn't replace the clutch for this reason but if you want to do not put a Subaru one in or you will just end up with the same problem. Someone like www.milsport.co.uk could recommend the correct clutch
