Guys,

Last night I was driving home and I started to notice that whenever I stopped accelerating, I could hear a banging from somewhere... I couldn't determine if it was from infront or behind me!

By the time I got home, it sounded really loud... sort of like a knocking sound every time I took my foot off the gas which went away as soon as I put my foot down again.

Not knowing much on the old engine side of things, I assume that this is something gone really bad? I had a nightmare last night that it was a blown gasket. Is there anything I can check? Has anyone else ever had this problem? HELP!!

does it do it if you rev it when the car is stationary. Maybe you can hear where its coming from ?

Didn't seem to do it when stationary, only when moving. I could only really hear it above 10 mph. Sometimes if I slow down and let the car just kinda roll, I can definately feel something ain't right...

Just having looked through a previous post, Trefor mentioned that a weird 'ticking' sound could be caused by a leaking exhaust manifold!

Similar thing happened to mine.

Turned out to be one of the exhaust mountings had sheered. It was quite easy to fix (and I aint' no mechanic).

Grab one of the exhausts and give it a tug, shouldn't move around too much, otherwise you've got a mount loose.

Theres a load of speed bumps near where I live so that would figure why mine went.

Good luck

I had the bolts fall out of one of my engine mountings, giving similar symptoms - luckily the manifold rest on the chassis so no damage, but I got it fixed on the way home from work (thanks Thames Valley Racetech). I'd just check if I were you - you should be able to just slip a finger under the manifold where is passes over the chassis. If it's touching then get it fixed before driving very far.

Could also be diff/gearbox mountings.

Cheers, I'll give it a check and see what I can find. I dropped into Kwik Fit to see if they could have a look or if they had any idea of what it could be...

They were more interested in looking at the car than trying to find the problem! I'll take it somewhere where they know what they're doing if I can't find the problem myself!

The noise has just stopped...

As suddenly as is started, it's now gone away. Very weird! I'm still gonna get it checked out though!

Thanks for the advice fellas!

In this case I have to say

"they all do that sir!"

TVRs have a habit of doing that. BTW If you ever break down and can't work out what it is (i.e. not running out of fuel/hitting a wall or something else simple) then wait 20 minutes and try starting it. You'd be amazed how many TVRs fix themselves.
