It's one of the Christmas late delivery MCS's which were delayed due to a fuel leak associated with the fuel pump. I had it returned to the dealer because of a strong smell of fuel when starting the engine from hot. I don't know what the fault is yet but I assume it's a continuation of the original problem. Perhaps they weren't all fixed, maybe some were tested and released as OK just to fail later in use.

Does anyone else suffer petrol smells from their R56 MCS?

I've not but there are a couple of guys on Mini2 who have. Check over there. One guy had his car held at the dealers for 4 weeks whilst they fixed it Hopefully, they will get your sorted. Is it the only issue or have you got any others?

I've asked them to sort a rattle from the tacho but that's all. The car is fine other than this. Hopefully fixed soon, I'm driving a Fiesta Zetec loan car until then

this is in no way supposed to sound smug and knobish because i do feel sorry for you and i don't see why manufacturer's can't get cars right before they go on sale...

...but because they can't, that's why i'll never buy a car within its first year of release*. i'd rather forgoe some residual strength for a lack of hastle.

*although to be fair i can't see myslef ever buying a nbrand new car agin. i am glad i did this time because i got exactly what i wanted and i'll keep it a while so depreciation less of a pain. but in the future i think i'll buy used (especially seeing as this car's replacement will more than likely be a mk6 golf gti or mk3 octavia vrs wagon)...

it's a fecking joke that BMW can't give you people the car you've paid 9quite a lot of) money for. i appreciate that they do sort out early cars with more (less??!) discretion on the warranty.. but honestly..they're not TVR...

We have seen a few with this problem on PDI and from customer feedback but not many. All info has been relayed to BMW technical and a plan is in action.

The part at fault is on world wide back order at present while they resolve the issue.I believe they have corrected the issue on the production line already so hopefully all will be well soon.

Yep, that would have been mine. Now sadly rejected and refunded - although to a number of problems including this one. Ours was bought on day of launch though so was a very early one.

I am going to leave it 6-12 months then buy another one, because faults aside the car is fantastic.

Finally got it back today, new fuel pump fitted. It would have been another week or so but I kicked up a fuss at Mini UK. The pump is on worldwide back order with priority given to the assembly line. Poor individuals who have already handed over their hard earned come second at Mini UK.
