Oh I met this guy on a MoTeC training day, he was talking about charged 350z's and was saying its a lottery. That they have seen several FI cars throw rods, they do it on lift off under no load, other stay in one piece. He was saying the mapping generally gets blamed but its nothing to do with it and its simply that the engines are not that strong so beware.

I think people are too used to sticking a great big turbo on a Supra and doubling the power with no internal work and getting away with it. Ditto with GTR's. You wouldn't expect an M3 to mind a 50% hike in power, nor a Boxster without new internals.
Both the 350TT & 350SC have/are having fully built engines. There was a crate full of shiney bits for the supercharged car when I was there last week.
Got agree about the internals.
You can't just bolt a turbo on or SC and think it will work.
I would go down the RB route if I was going to upgrade a 350z. Thor Racing have a good RB3O setup.

Sorry to be a luddite, but what's an RB...?
This would be my first jap racer and so I'm a bit new...
Thanks
Tuan
RB is the intials used on Nissan engines used in 200sx's and Skylines. Skyline GTR RB26 with a twin Turbos. However there is an RB30 block I think it was shared with Holden in OZ, also OSG do an RB30 block.
These are cracking engines with great low down torque, and capable of going up to 600bhp with little work.
A 350z with this it it would be excellent. Top Secret did a conversion. Check there web site out.
Excuse me typing and grammer, I have fat figures and I'm using my blackberry on a train.

Hey Tuan,
If you are looking at a Jap motor, have you considered an NSX? They are beautifully engineered, although a little older than a 350.
Maybe worth registering here: http://forums.350zukownersclub.com/in
and also looking here: www.nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/

Mmm,max budget of around £18k and I want something with silly torque... Plus, if I'm getting back into this tuning lark, I want something fairly new. Back in the day, I wasa Fast Ford man and I suffered a lot with older cars and having to upgrade X because it died after I upgraded Y...
Plus, I prefer like the look of the Z over the Skyline/Scooby/Evos.

I've just got rid of my Skyline which was lightly modified ha ha(check my profile)for a Scooby Sti with PPP.
Had a look at 350's great cars but I can't get away with the driving angle, think its just me as everyone else thinks there great.
I was not going to change the Scooby but I've already priced up a bigger turbo, fuel pump etc..
Do you not want to over see the mods on the car you buy instead of getting one ready done?

Mind you, even thats brave.
Saw a lovely m3 at the Wharf pub where we (MRC) have a monthly pub meet. Previous shape with a heavily tweaked V8. It sounded very very different from the american V8s that were down there (we share car park space with a club of hot rod and modded US machinery owners). Very smooth sounding.

Normally yes, but I'm only considering it as there's a TT on the market. I wouldn't go that far if I were paying retail prices from scratch as I don't really keep my cars for any longer than 6-9 months. It seems to me that at the £19k mark, it's marginally more than an equivalent NA Z.
£9500 is a lot of money for someone to pay for some more horses.

Be different and stick an RB30 in one.
An RB30 is just the SOHC nissan six as found in Japanese Taxis and VL Commodores. Sticking that ancient boat anchor into a 350Z would be an insult, you can add the DOHC RB20/25/26 head to the 3.0L block for greater displacement, but it's still an old engine, the only reason people put it into 350Z is because they dont understand the new engine or they just had one already lying around.
The 2JZTE is a superior motor if you're going to go down that tuned I6 Turbo route anyway.
The current hotness for 350Zs seems to be the VK56 Nissan V8 motor, current favourite amongst most of the US drift crowd, with 5.6L of V8 muscle you dont need to run a squillion psi of boost like in an old RB engine, and it actually has something RB owners aren't familiar with, throttle response .

The OSG RB3O is not an old block.
