Should'nt be too hard with the right tools, its a bugger on the legacy because the engine sits lower.

Its a bit tricky getting at them but its not at all technical.

Some people remove the washer bottle I found it easier to remove the battery. Think you may have to remove some of the airbox plumbing the other side but if you do its not difficult. One of the black boxes (next to the filter itself) has a hose connected to the bottom, pull it off first otherwise you could snap the connector.

If you have coil packs they just unbolt, one 14mm bolt each IIRC.

The most difficult bit is having the right length extension bar. A spark plug socket is not long enough but if you have an extension that is too long the ratchet will foul on the inner wings before the plug is free enough to turn by hand.

Make sure the spark plug socket has a 'gripper' insert otherwise you may have a plug floating around with no way to get at it.

If its flooded (with fuel I presume) you could try turning it over with the fuel pump fuse removed, might dry it out?

yes Its a complete pain in the arse on a Legacy unless you have exactly the right extension bar, apparently easier on Imprezas though

foot to the floor, kill the fuel, and crank for a while... It's the way to unflood a light aircraft, so probably works for cars too!
