Ages ago I upgraded the front speakers in my Chimaera to a pair of 6.5" Infinity Kappas. Luvverly they are too. However, with the roof off, they're just not up to the job in hand solo.

The other day I was in Maplin, of all places, and they're changing ranges. Managed to pick up a decent looking pair of 6x9 Audax speakers for 30 quid. Rather better than the 100 quid I was thinking of spending on the rears, and worth the gamble I reckon.

Has anyone used Audax speakers before? Are they any cop? The magnets are big and hefty, they're bi-ampable, with woven glass fibre cones, etc etc, so don't look too shoddy.

I did, of course, go through the rigmarole of hunting around for rear speaker wiring. As has been discussed before on here, there're two pairs of likely looking spade connectors, one in each side of the boot, but they don't seem to be connected to anything, and tracing their route in the passenger-side wheelarch is a near impossibility.

I found the dangling connector that _does_ go back to the stereo, and bodged my own cables onto that. So the electrics are in, and I just have to wait a few days for a local car hi-fi place to be able to do the fibreglass holes and mount the speakers.

But whatever. If you're looking for some cheap rears, you could do worse than scavenge Maplin shops in your area to see if they're got any tail ends left.
