Mini Cooper S - Auto

Has anyone owned / driven the mini cooper s auto? I'm fed up of crawling thru traffic on my daily commute to London in my M3 and I'm thinking of getting a mini cooper s (in auto) in addition to the M3, just for the commute. Before I arrange a test drive I'd like to hear what anyone has to say about it; i've only ever driven big engine autos (mercs, bmws etc) so I'm interested to hear what a small engined auto is like to live with. e.g. Is it silky smooth etc / underpowered (and too irritating) even for commuting?

Any feedback on this would be gratefully received!

Driven a supercharged an a turbo one an for a 1.6 auto have some serious get up an go, not in the same leauge as the M3 but for what they are very good, but really a mini needs to be manual to me
