Help!

I bought my 450 in January and have had to put up with a loose drivers window. It rattles and flaps quite loosely.

I have just had the service done at Offords - what a great service they give, it's come back sounding even better!!!! - they had a look at it, stripped the door down and could not find anything loose or broken.

When it is wound down in the door there's not a mutter out of it. When you shut the door it makes a horrible 'clanking' noise, when in the up position.

Has anyone had this problem or know anyone who has, it's now starting to really bug me.

Thanks in anticipation
By the way the nickname is the wifes name, don't ask me why I chose it but I'm stuck with it unless someone can tell me how I can change it - the nickname, not the wife. I'm 100% hetro, so no girlie comments please.

not much help, but mine does the same...so with roof off, when the door is closed it vibrates and makes a chatting sound...nothing major but it does sound loose...the passenger window doesn't do that.

if i drive along bumpy roads with the roof off, i can hear the window vibrating, so my solution is to drop it an inch or two to stop it happening. going to get it looked at during the next service, might just be the window supports are in need of extra bolstering...

If you click on your name (on the left, next to your post), it'll take you to your page - at the top of the page should be a "click here to update your profile" option. Click it, and change your log in name.

Don't forget what you changed it to though!

Mine did this and it's now totally sorted.

The reason it clatters when you shut the door with the roof off is that the window (which is not now pressed against the rubber seal on the rear hoop) vibrates against the metal window frame at the front.

Mine also did it with the roof on (although it was more of a grinding sound then) because the rubber seal didn't touch the glass when the door was closed - so I removed some of the spacer washers on the side of the rear hoop and it now fits flush.

A minor thing perhaps but it really spoiled my enjoyment of the car.

Sorry, should have said that I only sorted it for when I have the roof on, as I always have the windows down with the roof off.

To correct it for having the windows up with the roof off, you'll need to make sure the rubber sleeve in the metal front window frame, goes all the way to the top. Not sure how you access this though.

Hi

My Chimaera did this too. I got Joolz to sort it - it's because the rubber lining has come out of the runner inside the door. It was discussed here www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=23177&f=8&h=0&hw=vet

I think instructions are in the bible.

I have another potential cause and solution for you all. My window did this (roof on or off) and it used to anoy the hell out of me. Shutting the door or going over bumps sounded terrible. It turned out to be that the guide rail was loose at the top of the door so that it rattled about in the frame.
Now when I say "loose" I don't mean that the screw wasn't done up tight, cos it was. The problem was that the guide rail "hooks" over a peg at the top of the door and is then screwed in place. The hook part of my aluminium guide rail had stretched open so that it rattled about on the peg. There was so little metal to this hook that over time it had either worn away of weakened. It was suggested by TVR that replacing these guide rails was not a nice job as the rail comes straight and needs to be delicately shaped to the individual door.
I ended up using that magical liquid weld stuff to glue a more substantial bit of metal (off an old lip spoiler) on to the hook part of the guide rail to strengthen it.
Well it seems to have worked really well so far.
Mind you, it was a fiddly job to do.
