After talking about it for so long I have finally started the job of cleaning, treating, painting and waxoyling the Griffs chassis.

Im particularly depressed with the condition of the wishbones with the O/S upper certainly needing replacement.

The questions are:
1. Should wishbones be replaced in pairs i.e. lower and upper?
2. If replacing both O/S wishbones should the N/S also be replaced at same time?
3. Has anyone access to a step by step guide on wishbone replacement?
4. Finally, can I get them any cheaper than £90 for lower and £50 for upper + VAT

Thanks in advance.

Had my top wishbones replaced by Exactly TVR last year - partly due to rust but mainly to change over to the one piece items.

Advice I got at the time was to replace the balljoints top and bottom at the same time and to make sure that the thrust washers are replaced as well (this was the cause of the vague steering in early Griff's apparently).

£50 sounds about the right price, balljoints are Saab parts (Lada rings a bell as well...) and are relatively cheap - Adrian @ Exactly TVR usually has all the parts on the shelf.

He refitted mine in a day so the procedure can't be that complex, you should be able to remove the top balljoint from the upright and drop the brake assembly etc down. (p.s. I'm educated guessing here).

Hope this helps.

Andy

PS - The rust is caused by the manifolds heating and cracking the powdercoating which causes water to get underneath the paint finish - waxoyling helps but nothing seems to be a long term solution.

Recently changed my upper wishbones and fitted poly bushes at the same time , I paid £36.22 each for mine part no TCO153 & TCO152 .Very easy to fit as well as you do not need a hydraulic press with the poly bushes
Edited to say a got them from Kerridges .

The only thing to think about, is the wishbones supplied now are Grff 500 ones. These are different to Griff 4.x.

There if you have a Griff 4.x then you must replace both sides at same time.

Thanks for all the advice.

After ringing both Kerridges and Peninsular I have now reserved the standard wishbones from my local dealer (Chris Neils) each priced at £49.72 plus VAT.

Kerridges prices have gone up to £49.42 plus VAT

Peninsular do the tubular wishbones for £65.00 plus VAT (standard for £52.50 plus VAT). I was very tempted to buy these but I would not have received them until next Friday. As a weekend in the lakes is planned the next day it was a no go.

So as well as the whole chassis treatment work this bank holiday, its the fitting of the wishbones and coating in flexible waxoyl underseal for me. Hope everyone else has fun driving their TVR.....
