...for a 323 1998 cab fitted with 18 inch wheels ...in fact were 18's an option back then? Assuming they were, what tyre size would BMW have fitted?

Currently 225/40/18 - seem a bit too low profile for 1998??

It's an E46, right?
If it is, then the tyre size will be right.
It may have been an option, and you should probably have 225/40R18 and 255/35R18, front and rear.

98 Cab would still be an E36 which were never factory fitted with 18" wheels (even the M3 only sported 17" )

So Im changing the wheels anyway do I go for 17 or 18 inch???

I'd go for 17s personally - had 17s on my M3 and it was the right balance of ride and performance, and didn't look too...."bling".

17's are right on the E36, anything esle looks blingy and a touch chavy
