I have a 5.0 Chimaera with PAS and from reading messages on this board understand the front tyres should be 225/50 15's and the rear's 245/45 16's. Well the rears are correct but the fronts are 205/55 15's for some reason. Any ideas apart from 205's are mabe more common?
More importantly would it be ok to go to 225's on the same wheels when I next change tyres?

yes that should be fine!!, some have 225/50/15 on the front and some have 205/55/15, however normally if the 205's are fitted then the backs are 225/50/16!!!, it would probably be better if you went for the 225's next time you change!!

As far as I know the 205/55ZR15s are only fitted when the car has not got power steering (or because they are cheaper?). The correct size for the front on a 500 with power steering is 225/50ZR15. If you want to go the 16" F&R route then the fronts are 225/45ZR16 (rack stops must be fitted).

I think that most 5 litres have the 225's at the front and 4 and 4.5 litre ones have the 205's

Thnaks a lot for the replies. I've come to the conclusion after looking around that the 205/55 15's are on because they are about £25 cheaper than the 225/50 15's and seem to be more available.
It will be sorted next tyre change!

I thought cars with PAS had wider (225?) and lower profile (50?) tyres and generally cars without had 205/55?

My handbook (early non-pas) shows (F)-205/60 (R)-25/55 although mine are 205/55 front.
