My headlamp cowling is loose at the top. It appears to be connected to the body at the bottom. How do I go about removing and realigning this cowling? '99 Chim 4.0. I'm aware of the access hatch under the wheel arch but the hole is quite small for spanner work.

On my 98 Chim the cowling is secured at the bottom by two wing nuts, these have to be accessed via the inspection panel in the wheel arch (or via the front grill if you have very bendy arms). The top of the cowling is held in place with Dum Dum. When I removed mine it wasn't actually as hard as was made out, use a bright torch and be prepared for a few scrapes and grazes on hands.

When you replace the dum dum on the top of the cowl be sure to fully remove and clean the area otherwise the new dum dum won't stick, and also allow it some time to 'set'.

If you want a couple of pictures from when I did mine mail me through my profile and I will forward some on.

Hope this helps,

Chris

It is also covered in the bible with pickies. Just hope and pray that those bolts don't just simply turn in the GRP...

Do you need to respray the area afterwards? It looks on mine like the paint is over the joint, and pulling the cowl off would leave a nasty crack.
