Manx Classic

Isle of Man plays host to new classic car rally

A major new event is planned for this autumn to replace the Manx Classic. The Manx Classic Cavalcade from September 18 to 22 could become the largest four wheel event ever staged on the island.

Aimed particularly at car clubs but with plenty of room for individuals as well, the event will make good use of the Isle of Man's closed road capability, offering participants the chance to drive the 12km mountain section of the TT course. And a newcomer to the island's challenging roads menu for clubs is the Druidale Trail, a long and winding road familiar to rallyists, following the highs and lows of the Manx landscape as it changes from mountain peaks to deep cut valleys.

There will be a classic jamboree in an open-air arena where clubs can show off their finest, an optional extra track day at Jurby Circuit and, away from the cars, the programme includes a welcome reception, an evening at the island's 100-year-old Gaiety Theatre and a gala dinner.

The Manx Classic Cavalcade is a joint project between the Steam Packet ferry company, motorsport event organisers FAD Promotions and the island's Department of Tourism which is providing substantial cash support. Inclusive package prices for the event start at £365 per person.  Details, including the track day option at £100, from FAD on 01624 614806 or Magic Holidays on 08457 585833, www.magic-holidays.com
