Buying Leon cupra r?
Discussion
Hi Everyone
I am currently in the process of selling my Lotus Elise and I'm toying with the idea of getting into a Leon cupra r. Ive being some research over the net but there seems to be a lack of information on what to look for when buying this type of car. Does any know if there are any particular weakness with this car?
Thanks in advance

Common problems to check are;
1. Wet carpets due to Pollen Filter housing or door seals
2. Cooling fans : with air con on, the cooling fans should turn slowly. If not they tend to pulse causing fuse to blow or fans to burn out. If fans don't run slowly, resistor has burn't out and slow speed and fans need replaced, although you can do a fix using a resistor connected between high speed and low speed signal lines. This is a very common fault on all cars based on MkIV Golf.
3. Front splitter easily damaged on sped bumps. Just clips on and costs less than £25
4. Some early cars had coil pack failures.
5. The Brembo brakes eat front pads which cost £120 per set from a dealer but a lot of people use Ferodo DS2500. Expect o chamge every 10K miles along with the front tyres.
I had one of the original Cupra Rs and did 80K miles without any major issues and loved it.

For full details, look at www.seatcupra.net but don't regret buying one. I love mine.
