A mate of mine (The Jensk - some of you will know him) has a 1981 Mini HL Estate in this colour.

He needs to know what the colour is called, as he needs to get some paint to do the new rear doors. We think it's Mace, but haven't found any piccies to confirm or disprove this.

Can anyone supply a picture of a car in Mace, or alternatively offer any suggestions as to what else the colour could be?

Was just going to say Russet Brown.

Mind you, it does look a bit light and tan like for Russet, but that could just be the oxidisation.

Not Russet, it's too pale and orangey to be Russet.

I would have thought classic Mini forums

Or I think I saw colour codes and descriptions on a Rover/BL type a while ago, sorry can't remember which one

1981 would have been Austin BL (?)

On 2nd thoughts I think you're right. Could also be Clove brown, but that was pretty dark too.

DEFINITELY RUSSET BROWN, AS I USED TO SELL EM NEW! CLOVE BROWN AND MAPLE BROWN WHICH ARE VERY SIMILAR WERE TRIUMPH COLOURS OF THE SAME ERA, 1977-83.

Not a Mini person, but won't the chassis number help you find the colour? The main problem will be that the original paint has faded over the years and so it would probably be best to get a garage to make up some paint to match otherwise the new paint will be too deep in colour.

Chassis number's blank I'm afraid. I posted here not knowing of the Classic Mini section. After I posted here I found that and posted there. According to members that posted in thee it would appear to be a colour called Mace. Thanks for your help though guys!

I thought Russet Brown was much darker than that - have just looked in a 1981 multi-model leyland brochure, and whilst it doesn't state the colour, there's a much darker brown Allegro, in the same colour i thought was Russet, and it is nothing like the above picture, even though it has obviously faded after 25yrs.

minicolours web site isn't particularly helpful as far as pictures go, but gives plenty of info on how to decipher the info from your vin number (should be on the v5 even if you don't have a plate)

http://www.minicolours.co.uk/cgi-bin/faq.cgi

failing that ask on a forum like minifinity.com , as there's plenty of knowledgeable people on there.

I think it may be Bronze Yellow.

I painted my bicycle mudguards that colour in 1973!

Nah, too light for that, I'd go for Nappy Cak Yellow

Looks like BL Bracken - this was available in 74 though so might not have been around in '81
