What it says on the tin (assuming I have spelt correctly) really.

If I get the XI to have an age related plate (should be really) then will it be tax exempt if the donor was eligible for exemption?

I don't think so frown

My Tiger is on an F plate, but the V5c states it was registered 2002 (when I finished it and got it on the road). I wonder if I could put a newer reg plate on now though scratchchin

Nope, your car would be a 2007/8 registered so follow the engine size tax bands

I think they changed the rules so that even if you get to keep the donor's plate, it's no longer tax exempt.

Age related (unmodified) import - possibly tax exempt.

'Fraid not Dave! I had a look at this too, and it'll go down as an age related plate, but the tax works on when it was first registered as a car, which will be 2008, presumably. The only real way of keeping tax exemption is to use a pre '73 chassis. Which doesn't happen.

Ditto to the above replies........However!!!!

The DVLA have occasionally been known to "Cock things up" once in a while and sometimes, just sometimes one gets through the net and ends up with Tax exempt status.
Don't bank on it though as this is very rare.(Out of 112 kits registered I've had 1.)

Thought I'd add the second part as no doubt someone will turn up and say "Yes, no problem" just because on their one occasion they got lucky and now think it is the norm.

I, too, have an "however" smile

My Locust was rebuilt in 1992, which was before the regulations were changed, and also before the donor car was tax exempt (1972). When I bought it in about 2000, I went to the local DVLA office and asked they made it an historic vehicle - which they did without questions.

I am quite tempted to buy the car back again - but I suspect that when my Aeon is on the road, I won't want to smile

You'd still have to do that anyway. Even if you qualified for tax exemption you still have to display a tax disk, you just don't have to pay for it.
