Just had a track day at Snetterton, where I buggered up the gearbox slightly, so driving home was taken very steadily, and I'd already had my speed fix.

However on the A47 coming back, I came up behind a lorry doing about 50, I was doing 65, and sped up to safely overtake, and 'may' have touched 80 when I saw a camera van on the bridge ahead. What do I expect? A letter, fine and 3 points?

I'm sure he'd have done me for 71mph anyway, as I was driving a BRG MGC with 'Racing' spots on, so I stick out like a sore thumb, and will more than likely be discriminated against because of the car, even though my drive home was sedate apart from that one moment, where my timing couldn't have been worse. Not denying it, just a bit of a shame when you are so careful being aware that you're a prime target, then one moment catches you out.

10 years without incident too frown

Unlucky dude! I know what it feels like when you are discriminated against! But the best thing would be to wait a couple of weeks to see if you did get flashed first. Hopefully he missed you while taking a piss or something!! But for 80 in a 60 you should only get 3 points but someone will be along to confirm soon!

Nervous two weeks then.

Cheers guys, but I suppose I shouldn't have been going that fast + I think my speedo is out - hopefully the right way!

Hi thewave,

Have you recieved anything yet? I think I was blipped by a camera van today on the A47, similarly at around 80mph indicated. A couple of friends have it on good authority that on the A47 they only convict > 84mph, so I'm hoping for that - just wondered whether you'd heard anything.

There are plenty of defences availiable in this situation. Foremost i would say that you have a case for saying that the increased speed was due to acceleration in overtaking. If the truck really was not hitting the limit and it was safe to overtake you are meant to do it quickly and safely. But wait and see what happens first.
