Having just graduated from cars to bikes.............I would have to say I don't! It's too much fun, that's the whole point of a bike! Although having said that, as Mad Dave points out, there are places to be a lot more cautious than others, especially when there are other vehicles about.
Ah, the glorious benefits of hindsight n' all that. Can anyone spot the irony in my comment above & the fact that this evening at just gone 8pm, I overtook an unmarked OctaviaRS at decidedly more than the posted limit? In my defence it's a dual carriageway (past the Camrose for those that know Basingstoke).

Doh!

Well look at it this way. Think of all those times when you have been speeding and have not been caught!

Absolutely. Although I can't stand to get 3 points for every 2 months of riding (passed my test in June!)

Erm, according to vascar, I was doing 67.38mph in a 40 (not really dangerous at that time on that bit of road), and having checked on Pepipoo, I could be in for a bit more than 3 points, despite what the officer said. Anyone have any experience of these figures?

The bright side being that he was a bit slow off the roundabout & couldn't keep up to record my speed down the next dual carriageway! wink

I too have had a silver Octavia trying to make me go for it, i was in the TVR but none the less, and i'm Birmingham way. I was told last time i got booked- upto 25mph over, 3 points and the normal fine. 26-30mph court appearance and its up to the judge to decide what penalty, 30+ bye bye licence, ( theres mitigation and all that then.). Did you get a fixed penalty notice or not? that will tell you what your up for.

Father in law done by the very same silver Octavia. They flashed him out on the evesham bypass to pass a lorry....cheeky gets, still did him.

There is also a black Octavia RS, Black V70 Estate, Grey Beemer 5 series (06 plate) and a dark red Omega estate. All doing the rounds in the midlands....Beware!!

I was issued an FPN at the roadside so am assuming that this means 3 points only? Certainly only a £60 fine I believe.

He did mention that as he was happy with my general standard of riding he was happy to just issue the FPN (good job I was going fast enough to get out of sight as he wouldn't have been if he'd seen what happened AFTER I passed him! redface )

As you mentioned Basingstoke, you may want to know that in Newbury they have an unmarked silver golf with which they try and goad bikers in.

No easy way, but tell tale signs, are two arials, two passengers, very clean, normally de-badged (but not always!). Police wear all black with a small patch of black and white check on chest now. Also look in bottom corners of rear windscreens for black areas which are normally blue lights or an extra rear view mirror. Cars are normally really clean too!!!!!!

Beware the black Octavia VRS around the bottom of the M3 and the along the M27, specially around Rownhams. There is also a Black Range Rover Sport used on the M27 around Portsmouth - dark tints and everything.

I reckon theyre easyish to pick:

Look for rep-mobiles that ride a little lower than they should (sports suspension), extra aerials, larger than OE wheels or tyres, occupied by two clean-cut gents who always sit well postured in the seat, check back parcel shelves for light clusters, very unlikely to a dealers ticker in the rear window or dealers number plate surround, etc etc If your overtaking - check for lapells on shirts, extra equipment on the dash and blue flashing lights!
