If it's of any use I tried the sony U82T in halfords next to the garmin 660FM. The sony looks great and feels very well made but seemed slower to calc routes and draw the map than the garmin, and less intuitive to use (I'm sure it's fine when you're used to it though). Also if you want the top end sony it's the U92T which Halfords don't stock, therefore the garmin is streets ahead (traffic info, bluetooth etc). However in both cases there are newer models out soon - the garmin 700 series and the sony U93T.
Would have loved to have tried both on a road test but that's rather tricky. Bought the garmin in the end but if the sony U93 was out now (rather than Jan) I'd have got that. Jsut figured that the sony was a bit of an unknown - very few reviews out there and they haven't been in the GPS market very long.
