Morning all

any idea how I can go about getting CCTV footage from a main road in London to support an insurance claim?

Thanks

Speak to the local council, they (may) be able to help.

Theres two things you can do in relation to this incident.

1. You can contact the council who run the CCTV and either explain what it is required for and they will get you to fill in a form under the data protection act along with the appropriate fee.

2. You could contact the police explain to them and see if a kind officer will contact the council on your behalf and obtain the CCTV footage failing that revert to number 1.

But remember CCTV footage is usually only kept for 8 days if on a hard drive and 7 days if on video, this is of course if no one approaches the depatment and requests any evidence.

I take it that the collision was damage only and you have exchanged details, if not and thee is any othe factors then thhe police could / should be involved and you will get the CCTV retained if brought to there attention with in a reasonable time.

Thanks both for the response.

I've since spoken to a v.helpful guy at the council (honest!) who has given me the phone number of the local control room, and even said he'll call them for me.

FYI - in this location, the tapes are wiped after 31 days

Might even get a result at this rate...!

Its amazing what a phone call can do to the right person and I suppose it helps if the right person with the right helpful attitude answers the phone.

I meant to type 28 days instead of 8 but I would have still been wrong, good luck and keep us up to date about what happens.

Getting an injuction is a bit late if they've already wiped it isn't it? If the police have requested it then I believe the council technically shouldnt wipe it, they should just swap it out for another disk. And 28 days is the normal storage period for CCTV.
