Morning all in the BMW forum. I wonder if you can clarify something for me. My boss is a bragger, and has just told me that he is getting a new 335d M sport coupe 3 series. He reckons it will have been chipped by BMW, to give it over 340bhp, 0-60 in 5.2 - is this likely from a BMW chip? The factory stats for an unchipped one are 286hp and 0-60 in 6.7. Seems like a bloody big hike in power to me.

Is he bullsh*tthing me?

The hike sounds reasonable to be honest... even a VW 150bhp 1.9 diesel chips to 185.
But I'm not aware that BMW do chips from the factory??
The 335d is also automatic, so if you're thinking about a drag race with it I think you'd want something pretty fast to beat it! Even an E36 M3 Evo would probably need to be thrashed. A tweaked Impreza or Supra might be sweet though wink

Check out autocar.co.uk, in the videos section they've got an interesting airfield drag race with the 335d and a load of other fast stuff like the new Vauxhall VXR, and I think the Audi S5. The 335d seems almost uncatchable until approaching 100, even for the 6.0 VXR. redface.

But don't worry, luckily you can console yourself with the fact that your boss sounds like a right plonker!

Yes, he made a similar claim too - something also about 550lb ft of torque too.
Pah, let him brag - like you say "plonker" springs to mind!
Cheers for the confirmation though - I won't tell him he's a bullsh*tter just yet!

I think your boss is correct about the 340bhp and 5 second range to sixty.

340 wont be from the factory, but if it goes via DMS it can be done.

Chipped 335ds are apparently quite rapid and surprised a lot of people at Fighting Torque.

BMW don't do the chip, it will be aftermarket, but i've done before and afters on these engines and they do make 340 bhp once chipped.

fecking rapid as well

Okay good point but Hartge is a BMW approved modder right? I.e. if they do a re-map for you you warranty is valid still?

Er, yeah, it's um huge...that's why I drive a TVR biggrin
I'm pretty sure it's not a Hartge chip as he would have mentioned that by name I would have thought.

Why would BMW chip it for him? It's not a factory option. Maybe the BMW dealer organised it for him through an after-market chipper? Seems unlikely though.

I've had my E92 335d remapped by Simon at E-Maps.( http://www.e-maps.co.uk/ )

His conservative estimate is an increase in BHP from 286 to circa 340, generating circa 650nm of torque.

The delivery of power is awesome, and it just keeps pulling.
Looking forward to getting it onto the autobahn in a couple of weeks to see what it will do as it is no longer limited.
