All,

There is a 3.2 DB7 just down the road from me at a dealer - very good price (ridiculously cheap at 21k?) but it has 83k on the clock. I am going to have a look at it anyway as it's cheap and close but am I inviting a world of pain with a high mileage car like that? It's a manual if that makes any difference to longevity and seems to have been looked after, FSH etc.

Opinions please???

Cheers

Hi,
The 6 cylinder DB7's are a fairly good car as long as its a good one. Mechanically they are very good. Check for timing chain noise on start up and at approx 1800 rpm. It's basicaly a jag engine and they all suffered from chain noise aswell. Also the diffs are a bit weak and are prone to whine. There is also something else to check on road test. brake lightly from approx 60mph and see if there is any brake judder through the steering wheel. On some cars this is more serious than warped discs, It can only be fixed by replacing the entire front suspension, wheels and tyres and this gets very expensive.
Also check all of the electrics and make sure that everything works, especially the A/C.
As long as you remember that these are hand built cars and are a bit quirky. If it seams to be a bit of a dog and doesn't drive well, I'd walk away.

and check for corrosion on the bulkhead in early cars, and blistering of the paint on wings and bonnet.

Thanks all - sadly the car had sold Friday, even though still advertised on here and Autotrader! It was still in the garage though and I must say, was absolutely stunning. I will continue to look based on that, I had never considered owning one...

So if anyone is selling a 6cyl DB7 manual for tless than £25k, please emial me - money is waiting to go.

A longshot, but if you don't ask redface)

I recently bought a I6 BD7 for £20k, it had 96k miles. A few minor issues (the electric window regulator needs replacing -£250, and rear bushes need replacing) but through and through a very straight car. Just had it serviced a week ago (£500 approximately in total) and it's just turned 101k miles, still going strong.
I plan to spend a few quid getting it back to showroom condition, then sell next year, maybe look at a different aston.
This I6 DB7 is my first aston, and i'm suitably impressed, even with it's mileage.

They suite that red quite nice... but I would have to have the British Racing Green or Silver DB7.

I saw a few when I was looking for mine, and suggest you pay £25k minimum. Anything less usually has issues. Check for rust on the rear sills, rear suspnsion mount, bulkhead (as mentioned earlier).

Also check the front subframe. From below, it's hidden under noise-reducing plastic tray that can collect water, which ultimately rots the subframe. It's expensive to fix as you'll need a new subframe if it's too far gone.

Ask me how I know...

Ebay has a 66 E-type FHC in near perfect condition for that price, I know which I would have.

Strange, I've heard the same said of the DB7.
