Does anyone know the legal requirements regarding unmarked police cars in Scotland. Is it necessary by law to have warnings on roads where they patrol. I have seen these on the A9 but not on the M8.

The signs on the A9 are probably also there to scare people into slowing down. I doubt there is a law/rule - there are no signs down South and every police force in the country has unmarked cars patrolling all kinds of roads (OK, they're usually on motorways).

What do unmarked cars do ? They seem to spend all their time sitting in M1 jams. Pretty much as I do, but at least I go off to flog people stuff when I eventually reach my destination...
Hands up everyone who's ever had a "Bollocks" moment while overtaking a shiny Omega V6 ? Thankfully, at least up my way, they still seem to be placated by you noticing them, slowing down and tucking the car back into the Grannys and lorries lane.

I passed an unmarked car last Christmas morning at around 120mph. He came past pulled in in front of me and slowed us to about 80 then left at next exit with a flash of the lights and a cheery wave.
The road almost empty so I guess he didn't think I was a danger. Who says all coppers are bad?

I passed an unmarked police car on the M6 once, he was sitting in he middle lane at around 80mph. I passed at about 90mph and pulled across to the inside lane. Must have woken him up as he sped up and drew along side to wag a finger at me!

A friend once raced an unmarked car in his 911.

The Omega was driving like a tosser, and nearly rear ended my mate before squealing to a halt in the outside lane.

Lights go amber... green... so my mate floors it to teach the nob a lesson.

Mate is leading (obviously!) but the Omega is doing okay... well up for a quick race. Enters 30mph zone off a roundabout and the Omega is in 'hot pursoooot' (copyright Roscoe P Coltrane), so my mate calls it a day and slows down - silly racing in a 30 limit.

The Omega draws alongside - quick flick of the blue lights; mate shits himself and the policeman mouths 'fucking thirty' and points to the sign!

Mate acknowledges and police drive off...

Not an unmarked car story, but..

I saw the parked marked car while I was going N on the M11. Dropped to 75, went past. Foolishly gave him a long hard stare, full head turn stare for about 2 seconds. Very visible on a bike.

Kept a close eye on the mirrors, and here he comes!! I'm in the distance now, I'd turned up the handle a bit, but he's closing. SO I drop to 70mph dead.

He's lurking behind a van, hoping to get a good time on the vascar. But I know he's there, so I drop to 60.

Van overtakes me slowly, and I drop to 50, occasionally thrashing up to 75, and shutting down again.

He gets bored, leaves via slip road. I carry on at 60, and the dirt bag rejoins!! ha ha ha !!! thank god for mirrors, but he didn't bother with the GTI that thundered past at 90 odd.

He gets bored again, leaves on next slip, does not rejoin. I get payback on GTI man, and go past at 150.

Thought you may find this amusing!

I wonder, if you had pulled onto the hard shoulder and stopped between the exit and entry ramps, how fast he would have gone trying to 'catch' you after he rejoined? Not that I could possibly condone this sort of thing ....

That would have been a class act.
Maybe I will borrow my mates Video Cam, and give it a go next year. Ought to make it into the "Performance Bikes" collection for next summer... my missus can hold the camera as we bait the copper. Oops, did I really say that? ho hum. How naughty. I'm not aware of any law that prevents a passenger from filming???
