Buying 993 Turbo
Discussion
Great choice - I've had mine for about 3 years now and every drive gets better. Try this site - lots of details re buying....

Good luck!
OK, search these forums for info on the 993tt. There are many people like you, who have opted for Porsche's bargain battlewagen.
Then do a search under members' fleet, and see who owns one. There will be about 10 or so owners. Email one or two of them for their impressions and advice. Derestrictor will amaze you with his email prose, so try Simon just for a laugh He has a 490bhp version called Wolfgang ...
Lastly, get an inspection on whatever car you buy. The best ones from a warranty point of view will be those in the dealer network, so do a search on the official Porsche site. For independent dealers, try joel at www.rsjsportscars.co.uk (35k LHD, 45k RHD last time I looked) or - boo hiss - Henry at www.911virgin.co.uk (I'd still get the inspection in both cases, just to be sure). Otherwise, check out Porsche Post (the PCGB members' mag). You will need to join the PCGB to get it, but they have a ton of cars for sale and most will have been better looked after than the random stuff you pick up in Autotrader. Again, inspection, inspection, inspection....
Cheers

Steve,
Geezer apres mon coeur, I should say; the heart wrenching switch from Peter's Best to Herman's blobbiest; yes, I know it's painful progress all too well.
And yet withall, as Ewan indicates above, here is a device that will in time, serve to amaze, confound and ultimately roll you over, gently nuzzle your belly button and leave you gasping in a wake of post orgasmic spent fuel, one eye lazily drooping down to the left and a generally po-faced suggestion of exhaustion generally glazing across one's starstruck visage, as you drift orf into the twilight of potentially never ending Franco-Prussian D-routes and dreamy flick-flack driftmeistery sequencing.
Is it the best car in the universe? I think it may well be and until I'm forced to sell it to finance my next tax bill at the behest of our Proton Tri-valve favouring masters in council chambers the length and breadth of old Albion, I shall be forever welded to it's nether reaches in glorious, erm, 'union.'
Buy, drive and indulge. Before it's illegal.

Err, thanks derestrictor.
Can we assume you've had a liquid lunch today? All good sound advice in all the posts. I've been looking for the last few days and have only spotted about 10 cars for sale in the whole country and all (even LHD) are £45K plus. What I really need is a Pistonheader selling his beloved 993 Turbo S for a 996 Turbo. What are the chances of that happening?
Cheers, Steve

I'm not sure if this is for sale but seem to remember it being reviewed on this site a while ago and is quite a beast:

Must say, Steve, I too have noticed RHD prices firming up somewhat.
Places like Camtune always seem to have examples for about £50k, I recall but maybe they sell like the proverbial off a shovel and are never generally there when you need the bugger.
Which means OPCs and stiffer radishment.

If it's the Ruf 993, it has been sold now. Went for a bargain price as well
Keep looking, there are Turbo 4s out there. Maybe Porsche Post - the latest has just come out. I will look tonight if I get the chance.

This has got to be the best looking Porker ever made and a future all time classic , i know they say the 996tt is "better" but for my £££ $$$ €€€ the 993TT has it , the last of the hewn from granite Porsche`s they have the charm and durability of a Tiger Tank.
From what i can see price wise these are still very saught after and i would think will hold their value very well in the next few years , one day you will be mine ohh yes you will my beauty

A bloody bargain price that went for, 500 Ruf tuned stallions that can propel you to the far side of 200mph while getting to 100 faster than anything pork flavored this side of a Carerra GT, & all for less than a 2.7 Boxster, aye carumba
Our very own Pete (verysideways) was chopping at the bit for it, except he had to go out to tame those pesky unruley yankees out in the colonies and there 'twas not enough room for it on the clipper that he set sail on
I belive the beast is now living somewhere in land of clogs & windmills high up the Dutch Alps & should be seen making appearances at Spa & the Ring under new ownership.

Incredible.
Originally £90k in 1996 and only the passage of 7 seven years and a couple of European flings?
A bargain in a very real sense.
I was tempted to say this might make higher miled privateer examples look a tad pricey in the £45-£50k bracket but given the seeming robustness of the mechanicals I guess it comes down more to whether you are that bothered about time-warp condition? (Which this surely must be.)
How's the searching going, btw?
Phil / Don,
Yeah, I spotted that one and may well go and have a look. At least I'll be able to gauge what a mint car would look like. I've spent the weekend going around the local dealers and seem to have hit upon a glitch. The problem is I really, really like the 996TT. Doh! now I'm going to have to find an extra £25K from somewhere. The 993's just didn't really do it for me they just seem a little dated inside. Maybe they'll grow on me as I'm quite a way off the extra £25K.
Yours, Confused of Warwick

Yep,
Spotted that one, it's looks fantastic. I rang BCR, who have it listed at £76K Which they feel is a fair price as only 35 cars came to the UK. A future classic maybe. It's outside what I was hoping to pay though. For that money I'd be able to get a 996TT.
Steve
with LHD 996T prices running in the high £50k's you could (almost)get a 996T & a lhd 993T for that cash!!
