got an RR Classic today and its in pretty good condition, needs a couple of things doing but nothing major, anyway ive noticed the heating controls are a little strange, air will blow out of the top vents facing the windscreen but when you set air to come out of the vents facing the passengers the flow is rather weak, well next to nothing really, also the fan continues to blow air with the switch in all positions except when you switch it to the Air Conditioning snowflake symbol and then the fan turns itself off and doesnt blow cold Air Conditioned air, any ideas what it might be?.

There are two fans. The heater fan blows up to the screen and down at your feet. This fan is central and deep in the dash.
The aircon fan is where a passenger glove box should be and only blows through the line of vents along the front of the dash.

If you have no blow on AC then the fan or its circuits have died. Best of luck finding out where the relays (2-3) and fuses are. Mine were in a sandwich box on top of the offside inner wing. Mine is an 87 and I believe options like AC were not fitted by the factory so if you ordered a RR with AC the dealer had to take the car apart and fit it themselves so things could be a little variable.

The correct position for the controls at AC are:
Slider A (face vents) to the bottom.
Slider C (Air up or down) to the bottom.
Slider B (Temp) fully cold
Slider D (Blower speed) III full speed
Slider E (Air supply selector) to snow flake.

hi steve, thanks for your help, i did notice a wire that was hanging down from near the glove box area so im thinking maybe the fan isnt plugged in, if not i will try to find another one, would one from a 3.9 Vogue SE work on a 3.5?, cant imagine they would have changed the fans around much?.

I would go looking for fuses and relays first.
The fan motor is driven from a resistor pack which sits on top of the motor. It is the resistors that provide the various speeds. These packs have been known to fail so if you operate the controls as I have stated then adjust the fan speed to see if any of the speeds work. This will give a clue about resistor pack failure.

If that wire you mention is off the fan then you will need to take almost all the dash out to re-fit it.

The fan motor wires are quite heavy duty.
