Hi, I know that on the sva form you make a declaration as to manufactured top speed, and obviously your tyres must be up to this speed rating, but do they just take your word for it? or do they say don't be daft this is a 6 litre ultima (I wish), I know it'll do 175mph ??

Basically I'm fine with my choice of tyres, but the new clocks I just happen to have from another project only go up to 120mph (fine for me) but the car will be capable of much more. I really like the style of the clocks I've got and don't actually think they do one over 120mph, so does your speedo have to be greater than your speed declaration too?

Thanks.

AFAIK, they only check the speedo for accuracy. Wrt tyres, they will check that the size is correct for your rims. I don't think they check the speed rating, but if anyone else knows different, I'm interested.

I think I've found my answers, and one for you about the speed rating, at:

http://www.totalkitcar.com/tkc_article_125.php

"Tyres - Speed and load rating must be correct and must be "E" marked."

"Speedometer - Checks accuracy of speedo within defined limits. If all speedometer related parts come from a single donor, this part of test not carried out."
