Changing a Steering wheel

I have an early E46 with the old style steering wheel, with controls for cruise control and stereo functions inbuilt.

Quite fancy upgrading to a new style wheel, how difficult is this, bearing in mind the electrics and air bag?

Anyone done it?

Should be a straight swap and plug and play; I put a sport wheel w/round airbag on my 99 E46 328i to replace the standard wheel with its triangular airbag.

Hi Phelix - yeah thats exactly what i was thinking of doing, was just a bit worried playing with electrics!! Did you do it yourself? any tips?

Hi mate,
I recently put a CSL wheel on my E46, its pretty easy to do yourself.
Just make sure you disconnect the battery so you don't get an airbag to the face!! Also be gentle removing the airbag so you don't set off the warning light.

Yeah i did! I did loads of stuff to it over summer when i was bored, but its too cold outside to be doing anything else at the moment!
Just waiting to move house so i can lower it as it still sits quite high in the arches...

Anyway, glad it was of use to you, i just managed to dig out one of the guides that helped me when i was doing it. I'm sure there was another good one too, but i cant find it at the moment.
