Hi Chaps,

I've done a quick search and cant seen anything that answers my questions.

I've just bought a 2006 M3 Cab which doesn't come with a hard top. I've found one in the right colour (amazingly!) and am interested to know if i need to do anything else to the car? I'm assuming its not had the hard top prep (I dont have the chassis number yet, so cant check).

If it hasnt had the prep, and ideas what it would cost?

Secondly, what are peoples thoughts on these - are they a nuisance or worth having? If its £700 will I get that back at resale?

Lastly, if I put the hard top on now for the winter, what sort of preparation do I need to do to the soft top to preserve it?

Any thoughts, help, advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Woody

If you get it for a good price and have somewhere to keep it safely stored in the summer then go for it. I had to get a stand for mine as the missus was going mental with it in the front room!

Looks great on in the winter, cuts out noise and keeps your roof as new.

No idea about hard top prep but cannot see it being a huge expense.

You see hardtops regularly being sold either with the car or without so I doubt you'll lose out financially in a big way.

Thanks Chessers. There seems to be a few around and they're not mega money, so if I can get the right colour, I'll give it a bash!

I got the fear a bit today when I read that the prep could be £500! THe roof has lights in and I supose the the rear screen needs power too. smile

Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong but I understood hard top prep was standard on late model E46's!! I've had quite a few over the last couple of years and have never had an issue whatsoever!!

Hardtop's definitely help resale and make a cab far more saleable throughout the winter months!! I just sold an estoril blue H/T on fleabay for £850!

My Bro said that too. I was under the impression that they all came with lids, but I know thats not the case now. I'll get the chassis number tomorrow and check with the main agent. I hope you're right Freewheeler. Thanks for the info.

The hardtop will go straight onto your car with no prep. It's lock and load. Personally, I dont see the point as the the soft top is so good and when you do get a glimpse of the English sun, you can't get the roof down.

Thats great, thanks paoloh. I think I'll only get it if I can get the right colour at the right price.

Cheers.
