Hello all, as you may know I have a Mk1 Helios Campaign that I was going to do some track work with but in retrospect the car is too good and rare to strip and put a cage in etc..

So...

I have bought a 3 door Mk2 16V as a dedicated track slag - bonzer!

I am looking at changing the engine for a later 2.0 litre 16V as the cam profiles are better and with a tubular manifold and a re-pressured original K-Jet real benefits are to be had so...

The cable change can be fitted with no problem but how do I get round the hydraulic clutch?

Any help appreciated.

I believe Corrado bits do the trick.

Can't help with the clutch as I stayed rod box, lasted 3 hard track yrs UK & Europe so they are not always that cack, but cam wise only better cam profile if its an ABF engine, if its a 9a they are dog pi$$ & you should use yr 1.8 KR head on that block.

I'd spend the manifold money on getting the head flowed myself tho.

Should have bought a proper track Golfy all done anyway wink

You can convert the hydro clutch to cable by using parts from a 98 (ish) Seat Ibiza 2.0 16v, I have just done this on my mk2. OR you can fit a hydro clutch pedal & cylinders with a little bulkhead reprofiling.

What 2.0L 16v are you on about using?

If its one from a Corrado / Passat / Audi, the cam profiles are worse than the 1.8KR as found in the Mk2. A common thing people do when swapping in the Corrado 16v engine is to swap the inlet cam over for the 1.8 item, makes for a more lively engine then.

Or you can go down the route of an ABF from the Mk3 or Seat Ibiza. A bit trickier as originally they were run on Digifant but can be made to run K-Jet.

You may find this post about cable change conversion in Mk2's on ClubGti useful: http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=81...
