Recommend me a Benz

Gents, I have a growing itch to add an older Benz to the fleet... I have been doing some research, but I'm suitably bewildered by the dazzling array of cars out there. My criteria:

1) saloon preferably
2) up to about £2k
3) reliable mechanicals
4) cheap/easy to fix if it breaks

Nah, go for a 300E or E320. More "pep" and smoother engine (coming from a PHer who's owned a 4 cylinder and now 6 cylinder '124 series)

ETA: W124 E-Class or W201 190-series is the way to go with your stipulations
