Hi, Iam normally to be found on the TVR and Porsche forums but tonight I'n here becausemy Brother's 156 Twin Spark clunked to a halt om the M1 tonight after having just had new cam belts, tensioners and top end service. I wasn't there but I hear it clunked and ground to a halt and the AA mantook off the rocker covers and everything looks fine with the camlobes etc.

Anyone got any ideaswhat went wrong? Thank so much in advance for your help.

Err, what do you mean by "clunked to a halt"....nasty noises?.....interesting one! Perhaps the garage didn't do the tensioner correctly and the belt has slipped??? Perhaps they knocked the cam sensor or crank sensor?

Let us know if you get a diagnosis.

Reading through the forumsI'minclined to think it's the bottom end rather than the top end.

Strange that it's gone just after having the belts done....too much of a co-incidence for my liking.

With this happening just after a belt change I would say something wasn't put back correctly / torqued up.
What happens when you try to start it with the key?

long shot - was the bottom pulley put on properly? if its loose it can make an horrific clunking sound, and if the ignition crak sensor is in the proximity its possible that it has been unableable to pick up the signal if the triger ring is on the pulley..

not sure if this is how alfas are done though.. worth a check though..
