Hi guys, just trying to fathom out voodoo talk in the blue book.

11.3 Chassis
Manufacturers original chassis structure and specification of construction, dimensions and material.

Does this mean I cannot lighten my subframe by drilling holes in it?

it depends on how the contex the rule is used in the particular rules of your class.

more likley the rules for hillclimbing will state what you can and cannot do.

the blue book is written in special circle talk parcel tounge!

had a look at this and i would say no, must remain std.

youv'e missed the important bit off.

the cage may not be tied into the suspension as to become a stressed DIRECT suspension mount.

so no adding bars to the shocker mounts, or hanging long shockers off the cage!

That is exactly how it appears in the book, thats why I am confused... It will be the "Manufacturers original" subframe, but it will be modded...?

Talk to a scrutineer - they're the ones that will throw you out if you get it wrong.

If it's for varied events then a general scrute will do - if it's for a specific championship then go direct to the head honcho scrute.

I'm sure they'd only be too pleased to help (and would probably be suprised that someone bothered to ask in the first place!)

my friends hillclimb mini has lightening holes drilled in the front subframe and its never been mentioned by scrutineers.

to me when it says you shouldn't modify the manufacturers chassis, that would be the monocoque shell, the subframe is just that, a subframe.

aha! Good answer... Wonder if the subframe is classed as chassis...?

The subframe on a mini is not that strong (flex). I have added a sump gard for strength (less flex). Hols not worth the work? Look at the boot and bonnet (fiber glass or carbon) and the side and back glass (pespex or what ever is the latest type)not the front. There is also a lot of diffrenc from one wheels to another. . This are just my iders what dose every one think?

Cheers Dan. The thing about this particular class is that you cant run plastic windows, but you can run fibreglass bonnet and bootlid. They are the only panels that can be changed. Other than that everything apart from wheels has to be as it left the factory on the body
