Help! Diesel pump gone on Primera

Just wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction. My mate has got a '99 V Primera TD 2.0 and the diesel pump has gone.
He's been told he can get one re-cond for £100 but can't find one. Or, send his away to be tested ££££, then get that re-cond ££££. But he can't find a re-cond one anywhere and doesn't fancy paying £500 notes for a new one as he needs the funds for his impending new motor!
Anybody suggest anything else?
