Hello Japchatters. How is everyone?? As usual with me at this time of year I've changed my car, but dispite my user-name, I picked up an NA FC yesterday.

Faily chuffed overall, 10months MOT, 4 months tax, good compression (just under 6bar when cold), but I'm having trouble starting it

It floods, and wont start. So far I've just popped the 40A injector fuse out and cranked it over a few times, then popped the fuse back in and its fine.

I've probably had to do this 3 or 4 times (about 50% start rate). It has had the "air pump" removed/disbaled??? Would this affect it, or am I doing something wrong?

Also, what sort of MPG can I expect, bearing in mind its non turbo?? Or how many miles to a tank?

And what fuel should I run it on? And for the oil I've read that mineral 10w40 is best, is this right?

Cheers,

Ed

The injector seals in the FC are rubbish and your injectors are probably leaking fuel into the housings when the car is off, causing it to flood and be hard to start. New / reconditioned injectors are what you need.

The air pump removal shouldnt be an issue provided its done right. If you dont have one already already, consider getting a dual pulley so that you still have 2 belts driving the water pump.

my old fc, which by the sounds of it was the same as yours (air pump removed, crappy injector seals) did around 18 mpg on my daily commute which is about 13 miles, 2 in town, the rest nsl.

I'm gonna get some either good 2nd hand injectors or new if they're not too muvh, as I read about the leaky ones on MROC this afternoon smile

I've just worked out mine got 20.5mpg on the way home yesterday, and alot of that was at 7500rpm and even a few tunnel passes wink

How do I know if the air pump has een removed properly??

To be honest im struggling to remember all that needs to be done when removing the air pump smile

Looking at the engine bay pic it looks like the pump is still in place? looks like can still see the pulley and belt to it.

You seem to have lost an exhaust pipe too from the back smile Possibly what they meant is a manifold back aftermarket exhaust without the thermal reactor has been fitted, which would remove the need for an air pump, and yet not actually removed the pump.

Although you cant actually see the area itself, heres a pic of my old FCs engine bay - http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/5485/enginebay2...

If you look at yours for comparison the pump is peeking out from below the top coolant hose.

All i can remember from mine is that the pump was removed and the opening blanked off, and all the hoses were left unblocked except one (largeish one heading round to the bypass air control valve?).

Dont forget to pop off the black plastic forward of the slam panel to check for rust horrors at some point

is the pipe off just above the air filter next to the maf just a breather and therefore not an issue or a left over dodge from original airbox removal?
