My turbo, trailing arm bushes and brake pipes need looking at. Can anyone recommend a good BMW independent garage near Uxbridge, High Wycombe, Amersham or Heathrow? ~ I'm blowed if I'll pay BMW main dealer prices again if there's someone good who knows the vehicle well enough to do a proper job. I'd really appreciate any pointers. Thanks.

... I see TCS are conveniently close to High Wycombe station (which is a big plus for me). Do you know anyone who's used them?

Quite simply go in, have a look around, see what cars they are working on, find out about their hourly rate, ask about a quote and if it feels right get the work done!

I have not heard of them and they do not appear in any of the user guides...but that is not to say that they do not offer a top service.

Birds are v. helpful, and good... but not necessarily cheap.

I know of a number of people who would not agree with the above comment!

Which part of Outnumbered's comment causes upset then?
- The "helpful" bit;
- the "good" bit; or
- the "not cheap" bit

Birds certainly seem to market themselves very well. That said, Gary Wollatt's best self promotion has to be the wonderful job he's done on his 3.0 CSi advertised on his site at http://www.autobahnservices.co.uk/csi.htm The man's work speaks for itself.

Belleair, I'm simply going to take your earlier advice: walk into a couple of the places you & Peter have told me about, look at the work they're doing on the sorts of cars they have in at the time have a chat and take it from there. At the moment Birds is one of those on the short list, simply because they're convenient (as are TCS at High Wycombe and Autobahn Services at Rickmansworth). I can always move on to others if they don't fit the bill.

I really appreciate the input - without which I'd still be sweating at the thought of going back to Sytners at High Wycombe for some very expensive work on a seven year old car: something that's simply not going to happen again now.

Thanks again,
Jon.

I know Gary well, have visited Birds and was less than impressed, TCS I have no experience of and knw Phil crouch at CPC who is one of only 5 people in the UK that us M5 owners will really trust.

Wherever you go I hope it works out well and let us know your opinions.

I've used TCS a couple of times and found them pretty resonable for servicing and some repairs. Alos know of a couple of other people who have used them and don't seam to have any complaints.
