Hi, I have just put in my provisional spec for a gallardo - yellow, black leather with yellow stitching, yellow brakes, computer etc etc and the only thing i am unsure about is the e-gear. i read in magazines that the Ferrari F1 paddle shift and the e-gear are fantastic ideas and that the majority of buyers buy one a second time. What are the thoughts on these? i have gone for manual at the moment but am wondering if i have done the right thing. i want to maximise my enjoyment without taking anything away from the driving experience? help.

In my opinon paddle shifters give you none of the excitement real shifting gives you. The computer does all the work for you whilst you just flip a button and it shifts up or down. In my opinon you made a good choice choosing the manual shifter. Yes it may be easier with paddle shift but it takes away skill and talent.

friend of mine had a 355F1 and loved it but went back to manual gated shifter.

He says it takes some time to fully appreciate the F1 shift and that all the reports by motoring journos bagging it have no idea just how good it is when you live with it on a daily basis.

Another mate has a manual 360 and deplores the F1 shifter he tried but then he is a traditionalist and likes racing his car so feels he has more control with a manual shifter.

The reports suggest that the e-gear is a better option - blimey!

Sounds like the issue is the cable operated gearbox - which affects the Maserati 4200 GT badly.

I hated my F1 355 - although I really like my E46 M3 SMG - it actually works much better than the 360 F1 (sadly not the whole car!) IMHO.

Lambo are good with ECU programming - reports suggest it could well be the box that changes our opinions.....

The latest Evo mag tests them back to back and conclude that the paddle shift is way better in the Gallardo (and they usually hate them)
