E38 Sat Nav hardware upgrade ?

Hi folks,
I'm looking at buying an E38 and wondered if anyone here has upgraded the old Mk2 kit to Mk 3 CD or even to the Mk4 DVD system?

If so, is it just plug and play with the existing wiring loom?
How do you remove the existing unit?

Any help and guidance will be most appreciated
