Everyone has their own favourites, I even use 2 different systems on my 2 cars. For regular, everyday use on a daily driver (my 540i E39) I use Autoglym products, very good, quick and easy to use and a great product range. For my weekend car,(850CSi) I use Zaino products, more time consumeing, harder work but a better final finish, my best friend who has a show car has just swapped Autoglym for the Meguiares system which he now swears by. They all do hood cleaning products but all my cars are hard-tops so I cannot comment.

On my z3 I go for the Autoglym range - it's decent enough and you can buy it everywhere.
A normal wash is:
Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner (bodywork, windows + wheels, not roof)
Rinse
Dry
Fast Glass on the windows + mirrors
Leather cream on the seats
Fast Glass on the dash and other plastic interior bits
And then every month I top up the Extra Gloss protection. Very easy to use, just wipe on, wait until it dries and then buff. Also then use the interior shampoo around the footwells etc.
Every few months I work on the scratches + chips that accumulate with the super resin polish and clean the seats with the leather cleaner.
You can also use the glass polish on exhausts etc to keep em shiny.
And twice yearly the soft top protector kit comes out - brings the hood up a lovely deep black and ensures good beading for the next 6 months. You only need to brush the hood in between applications to keep it looking good.

Have an ask on the Detailing part of the site or nip onto detailing world.
I use predominantly Zymol or Victorias wax on my M3 and did the same on my Z3 when I had that.
Autoglym Fabric hood cleaner is also pretty good. Renovo always worked well for me when restoring fabric hoods but mixed reviews on this product.
General tips for keeping your paintwork good would be:
Wash (two bucket method and get buckets with grit guards)
Clay Bar
Wash again
Dry then seal (Jetseal 109 or the like)
Wax over the top
It may seem like a long winded process but you can do it all in less than a day and the paintwork will feel smooth and look amazing and the finish will last for ages.
Once you have waxed, you'll just need to rinse off on a weekly basis and maybe reapply a coat of wax every couple of months.
