Simple really.

Is an N95 compatible with an 08 3 series with Bluetooth?

Can't seem to get it to work.

If not, is there a list of compatible phones to choose from?

Thanks in advance

Can get sound out but not access things like the phonebook through the satnav screen.

I just got the same phone, I can pair it but can't read the phone book via the car system. A quick look at the BMW site showed it as not being fully supported.

Anything on a symbian op system is going to be patchy at best. At worst you'll have to revert to morse code.

Absolutely loving it Duncan thanks - picked it Friday just gone. I am however having to work really hard to get a go in the right hand seat at the moment. Am sure it will change once she decides she wants a glass of wine when we're out.

Carl looked after us so well just as you promised.

Was weird actually as we got chatting during the hand over and he mentioned he was from Stone too (turns out he is the guy who lives in the next street down from us who always has a lovely new shiney Beemer on his drive).

Looks like the N95 is not compatible (iPhone ordered).

Once again Duncan it was an absolute pleasure to deal with you and I sincerely hope that the move closer to home is working out well for you and yours.

All the best buddy.

While the N95 is not fully compatible there is a work around for the contacts, try this

I-Drive.

Go to pairing menu on phone menu of iDrive. Start pairing on iDrive and then initiate the pairing from the N95. Enter pass key on both car and phone. At this point be careful not to say "yes" on N95 to the "automatically connect" request - you don't want it to connect otherwise you lose the ability to connect to the Idrive from the contacts menu on the N95.

Now on the N95 go to contacts. Select about 10-15 contacts (hold down the pen key and scroll down). Then go to options -> send business card -> via bluetooth. (note you may get some connect requests from the car whilst you are doing this so you need to decline them) - the N95 will then format the business cards and send them. Repeat for the rest of your contact list.

Once you have done this the car has given up trying to connect to your N95 so the iDrive menu goes back to asking if you want to set up a new connection (which is wierd). Don't do this. Instead remove car keys and insert again to restart iDrive - the N95 is now in the paired list on the iDrive. Now go into the N95 and select the car bluetooth connection and configure it to automatically connect to the car. Once it is connected the "A-Z" contacts are greyed out.

Here's the mysterious bit - now wait for 5 minutes and the menu goes white and all your contacts are there - not sure what the IDrive is doing during this time as the contacts are already transferred.

Non I-Dirve ULF

First, go into pairing mode on the car, and use the N95 to find the car. Enter your pin number so the phone is paired. Don't exit pairing mode on the BMW yet.

Now on the N95 go to contacts. Select about 10-15 contacts (hold down the pen key and scroll down). Then go to options -> send business card -> via bluetooth. Select the BMW from the list of bluetooth devices and it'll send them across. Repeat for the rest of your contact list.

You may end up with a few duplicates in your BMW phonebook depending on whether your original contacts had multiple phone numbers or not. But it definitely works and displays incoming call name properly etc.

I tried doing the whole contacts list in one go but it failed - doing it piecemeal takes a little longer but its a one time thing.

I have a Gen12 ULF in my E46 and a N95 (v21.0.16) and I've transfered all my contacts and it works perfectly. (no SMS reading though).

HTH

BTW the Iphone only works properly with the Gen13 ULF, not sure about the I-drive ULFS
