They are very reliable cars and have a bomb proof engine. They do however need regular oil services, i.e. every 6000 miles.
The only common fault I can think of is that with age they are more prone to suffer from boost leaks, but this can be easily remedied with Samco Boost hoses.
They really are a Wolf in Sheeps clothing and a joy to drive (so long as you don't factor in fuel consumption!).
Pop over to the S2forum, as previously stated, and they will let you know all you need to know about them.
Oh and a re-map and 3" straight through exhaust can see you over 370bhp with an awful lot of torque!

Cheers for the replies
One other thing, can you tow with them?
If you want the official Audi response: no, tow bar fitment was never characterised or homologated for the car.One other thing, can you tow with them?
If you want my experience, then the answer is yes - it is possible :

I have read somewhere that when you hook up towing electrics to a RS2 it fools the ECU into reducing BHP down to 200 so as not to be towing things at 165mph plus!!!!!
Never heard that before. Besides, Audi never offered a factory towbar on the RS2. ECU settings alone would strugle to bring an S2, let alone an RS2 down to 200bhp.Found it, it was in the March issue of Audi driver mag, it was a article about the engine in the RS2, it says:-
An amusing aside is that Audi did not permit the full power of the RS2 to be used when towing a trailer. Would anyone wont to hitch a trailer to an RS2? Well, as a four wheel drive "lifestyle" estate, towing a boat, or such like, was not excluded from the cars job description. power was restricted to 230ps when trailer electrics were hooked up. this was achieved by fooling the ECU into thinking that the car was operating at an altitude of 4.200 meters above sea level, with an air intake pressure of 0.6 bar. This power restriction was believed to protect the clutch against overloading, but it may also have been to prevent drivers from towing a trailer at 160mph.
